At the beginning of a new year it seems like a good point to review the visits and exhibitions that took place in 2019.

The year started with a visit to the Netherlands in March. First stop was the Water Campus Leeuwarden – a meeting point for the Dutch water technology sector with the ambition to play a sector uniting role for the rest of Europe.

Next on the itinerary was a visit the Aqua Nederland’s exhibition in Gorinchem. Whilst mainly aimed at the domestic Dutch market it was an opportunity to meet and discuss our instrumentation with local companies in the wastewater sector, which resulted in trial installations for our Avocet Sludge Blanket Monitor.

In May International Business Development Manager, Paul Walters, was in the Czech Republic visiting the cities of Brno and Prague. Whilst in Prague he had the opportunity to visit Voda Praha (Prague Water) at the new Prague Central Wastewater treatment facility situated in central Prague on an island in the Vltava River. Here they have constructed a new facility next to the old plant using their latest technologies. They have installed 13 of our Sludge Blanket Monitors within the site.

We were delighted to be the only U.K. manufacturer to make a presentation at the prestigious Indo-UK Workshop on wastewater treatment organised by the Universities of Punjab, India and Hull, U.K. in July. Paul Walters spoke on the opening day of the event; Smart Storm were invited to participate due to their experience in the wastewater industry.

India is particularly focused on improving infrastructure and improving the treatment of wastewater is a key plank in tow major initiative the Smart Cities programme and Clean Ganga project. The workshop brought together a wide range of scientific experts in the main from the field of academia and involved the new generation of young researchers. Smart Storms knowledge and experience in measurement and application of instrumentation offers great opportunities in the emerging Indian marketplace.

Later in the year saw us attend two exhibitions either side of the Atlantic. Firstly, the Contamination Expo Series at the NEC in Birmingham in September. Our focus was Fats, Oils and Grease removal, where we were showcasing our innovative GreasebusterTM FOG skimmer, mop skimmers and Bioaugmentation treatments.

At the show we were also discussing and showcasing our expertise in effluent treatments, including pH balancing, bioreactors, pump stations, site surveys and servicing offering a whole range of treatment plant solutions as well as water pollution containment. We can offer fire containment systems, oil and water separator alarms, pump stations, flood alarms and spill control.

Our final journey of the year was to the WEFTEC exhibition in Chicago. As the largest annual water quality exhibition in North America, the expansive show provides unparalleled access to the most cutting-edge technologies in the field. WEFTEC serves as a forum for domestic and international business opportunities and promotes invaluable peer-to-peer networking among registrants.

Smart Storm were delighted by the reception we received from our American hosts, who showed a great deal of interest in our innovative technologies – including the Universal Smart Instrument, which is designed to input several parameters on a single easy to use instrument. We look forward to working more in the American market, giving the market leading technologies with real value.
